The association was founded in 1945 by Sir Malcolm McAlpine, the third son of Sir Robert McAlpine, 1st Baronet. The organisation now has more than 7,250 members and was a founder member of the Horsemen’s Group, which represents owners, trainers, jockeys, breeders and stable staff.
